Why Major in Psychology at UCONN-Stamford?
The Psychology Major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
at the University of Connecticut at Stamford provides students with
a solid background in the field of psychology. In addition to the
knowledge base underlying the field, a student graduating from the
University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology
will have mastered many important conceptual skills: the computer
analysis of research data with SPSS (Statistical Package for the
Social Sciences), the electronic search of information from library
and internet sources, the collecting of research data, and the writing
of both research and theoretical documents. In addition, the student
may acquire applied skills from numerous field experiences provided
by internships and independent studies. The goal of the Psychology
Major is to train a student for a career in psychology by providing
a firm undergraduate foundation for graduate studies. However, both
the knowledge base and the related skills will well serve a student
in many non-psychology careers after graduation.
The Psychology Department at the University of Connecticut at
Stamford is committed to offering a large variety of required and
elective psychology courses throughout the academic year and mid
and summer sessions. In this way, Psychology Majors are assured
of having the courses they need for graduation.
In addition, members of the Psychology Department are on hand
for career advice and for advice and assistance in the application
to a graduate program.
