A Changing World: Women Respond |
March 1, 2012 – March 30, 2012 | Independent curator and artist consultant Laura Einstein chose 40 works by 24 women artists from around the state; the works encompass painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, and installation art. The art speaks to the ways in which women see their changing roles with regard to issues that affect our social, political and societal structures and the exhibit demonstrates the power of art to affect our hearts and minds, and perhaps even to change opinions. Themes addressed in the show include: contemporary feminism, the image of women in myth, and women in roles varying from CEO to wife and mother to goddess. Some works address how violence and terrorism are seen through the feminine lens. An overarching theme is the strength and stamina of women in the face of a changing world. |
